Hamber’s 2025-2026 Student Council (StuCo) has taken shape, with elections and interviews occurring through April and May.

StuCo’s new Co-Presidents are Salena Sharma (11) and Tony Chow (11). Their role is to oversee the entirety of the Student Council body and to ensure that everyone’s ideas are heard and put into action. Both Sharma and Chow are committed to creating a more inclusive and engaging school environment, and they’ve already started planning new initiatives for next year.

Hamberites will hear the directors of communication Victoria Tsang (11) and Jett Wu (11) on the morning announcements every morning. Lydia Choi (10) will be taking on the role of treasurer, responsible for managing the StuCo’s financial affairs. Yuree Na (10) will keep meeting notes and organize documents as secretary.

Chow said that Ms. N. Buonassisi (Languages), who has been involved with StuCo in past years, is the only confirmed teacher sponsor for the 2025-2026 school year. “We haven’t been told who our other sponsor(s) will be, if there are any,” he said.

“We are going to kindle more school spirit with more spirit days and fun events, and even collaborate with other school student councils to create a school rivalry,” Chow said. “We plan on keeping most of the events like the dance and winter assembly, and we are also going to add more [events].”

One of Chow’s goals for next year is to have more people participate in Spirit Days. “We want to give students more incentive for participation, like prizes,” he said.

Chow also wants to maintain the current “committee structure”, in which StuCO members split into groups to work on designated events. “I do want to tweak it a little, so there’s more freedom to move between committees and more collaboration,” he said.

“I see a lot of leadership potential in our new council,” Chow said. “I’m excited to work with the new executives — they're going to be crucial members.”

Chow views his role as a “leader, who delegates and oversees other people’s tasks. I want to make things run smoothly and fill in important gaps in the council.”

He has been a member of StuCo since grade 8. “It’s been a great journey — a twisty, windy path kind of journey,” Chow said. “I’ve learned lots from my years on Student Council. All things go wrong, but all things can also be fixed.”

“Be prepared for a spiritful new year,” is Chow’s message to students. “It's gonna be awesome and the bomb.”
