Oasis, one of the world’s most popular British rock bands, is getting back together and going on tour 15 years after breaking up. They announced their reunion on Aug. 27 in an Instagram post, saying, “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.” Following this statement, they released the dates for their reunion tour in the UK — the Oasis Live ‘25 Tour.
With just five dates lined up for the UK tour, people waited in virtual queues filled with millions to try to get presale tickets. The Oasis Live ‘25 Tour set a record for garnering the largest demand for a concert launch in UK history. According to Rolling Stone, general admission tickets that were priced at £100 (CA$178.18) pounds during presale ended up costing upwards of £400 pounds (CA$712.73) due to the high demand.
The Oasis ticket pricing process was so chaotic that the UK started an investigation into Ticketmaster — the world’s leading ticket marketplace — and its dynamic pricing method. Dynamic pricing, or surge pricing, is a tool used by ticketing companies, hotels, and apps to increase prices as demand increases.
Oasis’s break up was sparked by a backstage fight between brothers Liam Gallagher (lead singer) and Noel Gallagher (songwriter and lead guitarist) on Aug. 28, 2009, prior to them taking the stage at the Rock En Seine festival in Paris. The fight was verbal and physical; punches were thrown and Liam smashed one of Noel’s guitars.
“It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight,” Noel said in 2009, after leaving the venue, on X, formerly known as Twitter. “People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."
The tour announcement also had a huge effect on social media. Oasis trended online, with many content creators making satirical videos about the band having a fight during the first five minutes of the show or how people can only pay for tickets by selling their kidney or their house.
The original Oasis band members included Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher, Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan, and Tony McCarroll. Of these members, Liam, Noel, and Bonehead have confirmed they will be returning.
Due to high global demand, the band has decided to expand their tour to North America. Oasis will perform two shows in Toronto, one in Chicago, two in East Rutherford, two in Pasadena, and two in Mexico City, a current total of nine shows in North America. When the North America tickets were released on Oct. 4, all 500,000 were sold out in the first hour.
Oasis recently revealed that they will be traveling to Australia as well. The two shows that were first announced for Australia were in Sydney and Melbourne, and tickets went up for sale on Oct. 15. According to an Instagram post from Oasis, due to “phenomenal demand,” the band has added additional shows in both Sydney and Melbourne on Oct. 18. Tickets to all of these shows were sold out in half an hour.
