Man Pleads Guilty to Canada-US Migrant Smuggling
Shivam Lnu has pleaded guilty in US federal court to charges regarding his involvement in an illegal trafficking ring smuggling Indian migrants across the Canada-United States border. According to the US Department of Justice (DOJ), Lnu pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit alien smuggling and three counts of alien smuggling for financial gain.
What Does A First-Time Cap On International Study Permits Mean For Canadian Post-Secondary Instituions?
In November 2025, the Canadian government implemented a cap on study permits issued to international students to reduce strain on the housing market and limit fraud. Beginning in 2026, the Canadian government projects that only 408,000 study permits will be issued throughout the year.
