Wildfires in Maui
On Aug. 7-8, a wildfire burned down parts of Maui and the historical town of Lahaina. It was considered to be the largest fire in the United States in the past century, and led to 97 confirmed deaths and 31 missing people.

Flooding in Libya
Tropical Storm Daniel first passed through Libya on Sept. 10. Heavy rainfall and strong winds plagued the country, leading to major flooding and significant destruction throughout the northeast of the country.

Tragic Earthquakes Strike Morocco
On Sept. 8, a powerful earthquake of a 6.8 magnitude struck western Morocco, approximately 70 kilometers southwest of the city of Marrakesh. This tragic event has left a trail of destruction, and has resulted in thousands of deaths and widespread damage to communities in the region.

Death Toll in Turkish and Syrian Earthquake Hits 50,000
On Feb. 3, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Turkey and northern Syria, succeeded by a second earthquake of 7.5-magnitude in the following hours. The tremors were the deadliest quakes in Turkey since an earthquake in ancient Antioch in 526 and the deadliest in Syria since an 1822 earthquake in Aleppo. By Feb. 28, the death toll had surpassed 50,000 in the two nations.

Hurricane Ian Strikes Florida; Causes Widespread devastation
Hurricane Ian made landfall in southwest Florida on Sept. 28. With winds over 240 km/hr, it was labelled as a Category 4 hurricane, being one of the strongest hurricanes in the US on record.

Floods Devastate Pakistan
Pakistani floods has claimed the lives of almost 2,000 since Jun. 14, the United Nations reports. The floods have caused the largest number of flooding fatalities since the 2020 floods in South Asia, and has been called the worst floods in the history of Pakistan. Pakistan proclaimed a state of emergency on Aug. 25.
