The Griff's Promising Return
New school, new store! After a four-year hiatus, Eric Hamber’s student store, the Griff, is open again, selling drinks and snacks. But is it here to stay? The Nest sat down with Griff president Renee Kwok (11) to get the behind-the-scenes on the reimagined student store.
On the Come-Up: A Griff Update
As the graduating class of 2024 says goodbye to Hamber, their memories of the pre-pandemic Griff are leaving with them. The Griff, Hamber’s student-run store, has been mostly inactive for the past few years. However, the students behind the store are now working on rebuilding its reputation as one of the school’s most prominent operations.
The Griff Re-opens (Briefly)
The Griff, Eric Hamber’s quintessential school store, made its long-awaited return after months of extensive planning. Shut down in 2020, the Griff had been shuttered for nearly three years. This year, however, the Griff came back to Hamber with a two-week pop-up shop at the kiosk that ran three days a week, from Jan. 16 to 27.

Planning for the Long-Awaited Reopening of Eric Hamber’s School Store
The Griff, Eric Hamber’s school store, was once a convenient hub for students to purchase snacks and Hamber merchandise. However, after COVID-19 and the passing of Eric Hamber’s beloved business teacher and school store’s sponsor, Ms. T. Hayes (Business Ed.), it has since been closed. This year, Marketing 11 and E-Commerce 12 students are working to bring it back with the support of Ms. S. Schoenfelder (Business Ed.) and Mr. M. Albrecht (Business Ed).
What Happened to the Griff?
The Griff had been running for over three decades and has been a staple of the school community. However, for the past two years, it hasn’t operated.
