SATIRE | Be Mindful of Why You Were Given Summer Break

Don’t have any plans yet for the two months school is not in session? Lucky for you, we are back with another fire list of things to do: Summer Edition. Being a screenager is NOT how you want to spend your summer. Having regrets about wasting your time can be the worst, but can be prevented by doing the following activities.

Have a barbeque with your friends (if you have any)

Nothing feels better than having a big gathering with your friends where you don't have to worry about assignments and due dates; just the power of friendship and the delicious taste of Onika Burgers. The setting of your esteemed BBQ does not matter — it is the people who you invite who make the moment special. Bust out the BBQ and cook up burgers, hotdogs, but most importantly… FRIENDSHIP💜.

Visit Tribune Bay

From the first time you set foot on the beautiful crystal beach of Tribune Bay, you will be dreaming of it eternally. After visiting in 2021, I dream of going back every night. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in British Columbia, with white sand like that of Hawaii. Once you visit, the atmosphere will plague your mind constantly. The four hours and 35 mins and having to wait hours in the sweltering sun just to get onto the ferry is totally worth it. Hornby Island is an amazing place and should be visited at least once in the summer.

Ask your crush out on the last day of school

Hallway crush? Math crush? Gym crush? English crush? Social studies crush? School crush? Have you been waiting for the perfect time to make a move and let your school crush know you’re interested? When yearbooks are handed out, a simple “hey, can you sign my yearbook?” could be a power move. Do not be shy and not make a move — you miss 100 per cent of the shots you don’t take! Don’t live knowing you didn’t take a chance when you had it: that’s minus 6000 aura points. If you get rejected, you have your whole summer ahead of you, and if the opposite happens, you also have your whole summer ahead of you!

Taste every iced matcha latte in Vancouver

Have all your iced matcha lattes tasted like grass? Well, you might be going to the wrong places! Vancouver is full of amazing coffee shops selling matcha that tastes amazing for a super affordable price. Some suggestions are Cowdog Coffee on Quebec St., Paragon Tea Room on Cambie St., and Nana’s Green Tea in Kerrisdale. When you order your iced matcha latte, please please please do NOT forget the shot of me espresso. If you decide to go alone make sure you bring a thought-daughter book to make you look nonchalant, and hopefully you’ll leave with someone.

Make ice cream from scratch

Ice cream is a staple during the summer months. Instead of buying pints of it, why not summon your inner Nara Smith and make it? An ice cream machine can be costly but it makes the experience so much better. The endless combinations of ice cream will fill you with joy. No more paying ten dollars after waiting in line for twenty mins to get ice cream! To make ice cream, all you have to do is find a recipe online, follow it, wait 24 hours for the mixture to set, churn, and then you have ice cream. Making ice cream at home is so much better than a Dairy Queen Blizzard. Plus, it can contain fermented sourdough so it's gut healthy.

Make the song of the summer

Sit in your car and jam to your newest creation and kick it off by saying “Did I just write the song of the summer?” Hit upload and you might just be the next big thing. Your song could be about your dream 6’5” man in finance with a trust fund, or a recent breakup you went through. But make sure that it definitely does NOT sound like a song on Olivia Rodrigo's “SOUR”. Document your process by starting a daily TikTok vlog series called “Trying to make a viral song.”

Go to the Four Seasons Orlando

Who wants to go to the Four Seasons Orlando? Meeeee!!!! Channel your inner conscious baby and take a trip down to Orlando Florida to bask in the Floridian sun. Maybe even do some deep sea fishing in the Florida Keys while you're there. The Four Seasons Orlando is located right beside Disney World, leaving endless opportunities for fun. Go to the Four Seasons Orlando or the baby will get you.

Have a summer room makeover!

There are no boundaries and no rules. If you don't have enough space, all you need is some galvanized square steel to extend your room and some eco-friendly wood veneer. Don't forget the expansion screws you borrowed from your aunt! I know you have all of those laying around somewhere in your house, so don't hesitate to put them to use. Add some coastal-themed decorations to bring the summer spirit to your house! Embrace your inner Coastal Granddaughter and create your dream room. By sourcing decorations by gathering shells from the beach, making your room look good can be inexpensive. Search Facebook Marketplace and local stores and you’re bound to find something you like.
