Hamber's Successful Run in Fall Sports

This fall, Hamber dominated the high school sports scene, participating in a total of 13 sports in one season and reigning victorious in many.

The grade 8 Juvenile Boys Soccer team is one example of Eric Hamber’s strong showing this year. Lukas Berger (8) was a player on the team and shared that, despite just meeting each other a few months ago, the grade eights had a particularly successful season, even making it to the playoffs.

“We had a lot of really close games that didn't always go our way, but it was special to be with my team and celebrate our wins,” Berger told The Nest.

As for the boys’ playoff run, Berger says they “ended up losing to Vancouver Technical High School in the first playoff game,” which eliminated them from the playoffs and put an end to their season.

The Aquatics team also had their fair share of triumphs, placing 8th out of 20 in the 200-meter medley. The team consists of all grades and had no practices all season.

“We didn’t have any practices because of the busy schedules of each of our swimmers.” Haillie Chow (8) explained. “The pool was kind of far away and it was hard to figure [their schedules] out.”

Despite this, the Hamber team came victorious and once again, placed high up on the chart, exceeding all expectations with their placement in the medley.

The Girls’ Field Hockey team also had a successful run this season. The team’s goalie, Lucy Jackson (12), shared that the team’s city championship game ended in a tie, leading to a shootout. “A shootout is a series of 1 vs 1 against the goalie, me, and an opposing player. The goalies take turns doing this 1 vs 1 to determine who wins. I didn’t let a single one in and we won the championship.” Despite having a good season, the Field Hockey team didn’t qualify for provincials this year.
