Hamber’s First Grad Cruise Sets Sail
Hamber’s first-ever grad cruise kicked off celebrations for the Class of 2025 on Nov. 21. The evening brought together 161 students — about half of grade 12s — for a night of dancing, food, and fun.

Skincare Recommendations– What is Good and Bad for Our Skin?
Skincare is more than a beauty routine; it's a vital part of health. Many teens struggle with managing acne, in addition to other skin health concerns. But luckily, a market has emerged to cater to their needs. With so many options to choose from, Hamberites shared their suggestions on which products work best — and which brands to avoid.

The New School’s First CANley Cup
The CANley Cup — a district-wide fundraiser for those with financial difficulties, hosted by the Vancouver District Student Council (VDSC) — has returned for its thirteenth year. According to VDSC’s website, “Schools are encouraged to hold friendly competitions” to win the CANley Cup trophy, which is awarded to the student body that raises the most money.

Hamber’s Hits: Students’ Favourite Songs of 2024
Everyone dreads waking up on early mornings. Every school day, an alarm clock disrupts a peaceful sleep, and forces students out of bed, feeling irritable and unenthusiastic. To aid in this daily struggle is an unassuming, but all-powerful tool commonly used to prepare for the day — your favourite song blasting at full volume.

Hamber’s One-Act Plays Return
Since the start of the pandemic, Hamber’s Drama Department has held one-act plays in the fall, as they were a safer alternative to plays and musicals. This year, two performances will be held from Jan. 16 to 17 in Hamber’s new auditorium. Each night will feature two one-act plays: “And Then There Were One — Spoof”, a comedic variation of Agatha Christie’s classic murder mystery and “Anne-Arky”, which depicts high school actors’ fear of an all-seeing talent agent in the audience.

Victoria School Board’s Safety Plan Rejected by Education Minister
BC Education Minister Lisa Beare has rejected a safety plan submitted by the Greater Victoria School District (SD61) board, instead appointing an advisor to review the school board’s plan. The revised plan will be due on Jan. 6, and is expected to address issues related to the school board’s discontinuation of the School Police Liaison Officer (SPLO) Program in 2023.
Unveiling the Future: Hamber's Memorable Opening Ceremony
After years of construction, and a year-long delay, it was only fitting that the new Eric Hamber opened its freshly-painted doors with fanfare. At the end of the first full week of classes, on Friday Sept. 13, the school hosted an opening ceremony. The event was attended by district officials, alumni, the building’s architects, students, staff, and representatives from the Musqueam Nation.

Cellphone Ban - What's changed in Hamber Classrooms?
In January, Premier David Eby announced the implementation of cell phone restrictions in all BC schools at the beginning of the 2024–2025 school year. The policy states that school boards must adopt multiple regulations restricting the use of personal digital devices in their codes of conduct. A Look Inside The New LLC
Hamber’s new Library Learning Commons (LLC) opened on Oct. 15, following much anticipation. While some students were confused as to if they could enter the space or not, the grand opening was ultimately a successful and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Hamber Faces Laptop, Projector Funding Shortage
Eric Hamber currently owes over $180,000 in repayments, due to the costs of installing more than 40 LCD projectors throughout the school and televisions in select classrooms.
